The south end of the Black Creek Greenway is currently at a trail head directly across Maynard Road from Godbold Park in Cary. The trail is fairly flat until you get to Dynasty Road where you must turn right, follow the sidewalk over the hill, and then descend the other side of the hill until you see the entrance to the continuation of the Greenway on your left.
If you prefer, you can access Black Creek Greenway at North Cary Park, located on Norwell Boulevard near Cary Parkway. Just park in the lot at North Cary Park and go downhill on the paths, over the bridge that crosses Black Creek, turn left (north) on the greenway and you are on your way.
The distance from the Godbold Trailhead to the point where you rejoin the trail on Dynasty is about a mile, and it is about another 2.5 miles to the end, near the “overpass to nowhere” across I-40.
To extend your jog into Umstead Park, when you get to the end of the greenway at Crabtree Lake, turn left and go across the interstate. The dirt road will lead you directly into the Park. About 1.6 miles after you cross the interstate, you will come to the Umstead Park Airport Overlook and a little bit farther down the trail you will find a water fountain.
Over the next several years, Black Creek Greenway will be extended all of the way to Bond Park on High House Road.
