The Cary Greenway system offers a number of great places to jog, but until recently, you were limited to out and back runs. Well, that’s no longer the case.
With the paving of the Pirate’s Cove Greenway, runners can now connect the Pirate’s Cove and Hinshaw Greenways in a very pleasant 2.5 mile circuit.
A good place to begin the loop is at the south end of the Hinshaw Greenway across the street from McDonald Wood’s Park on Seabrook Ave (off of Cary Parkway just north of Highway 1). You can park on Seabrook and take the Hinshaw Greenway all the way (0.8 miles) to the White Planes United Methodist Church Annex at the intersection of Maynard Road and Greenwood Circle.
Turn right on Greenwood Circle and take it to the traffic circle. The entrance to Pirate’s Cove Greenway is a few hundred feet down Greenwood Circle on teh far side of the traffic circle.
Take Pirate’s Cove Greenway south to Kildonan Place (0.7 miles) which leads you to Glengarry Drive. Turning either direction onto Glengarry Drive will bring you back to Seabrook Ave., where you turn left to get back to McDonald Wood’s Park.
