At present, White Oak Greenway runs west from Davis Drive Schools and ends at Parkscene Lane in the neighborhood of West Park near Highway 55. In the near future, this greenway will stretch all of the way from Bond Park to Highway 55 and beyond. (In fact, the portion of the trail from Bond Park to Cary Parkway has been in place for several years.)
A good place to begin your walk on the White Oak Greenway is the Davis Drive Middle School parking lot. (Davis Drive Middle School is on Davis Drive south of High House Road and just south of Davis Drive Elementary School). Just to the south of the school, you will find an entrance to the greenway. After passing along a neighborhood pond on your left where you can often see turtles sunning themselves on the logs and rocks that peek above the water surface, the trail crosses Castle Hayne Drive. The next stretch of greenway meanders pleasantly through trees alongside White Oak Creek. In this section you will encounter two side trails to the left.
The first leads up toPark Village and Sherwood Forest (see below) and the second leads to Davis Drive Park. Davis Drive Park is a good place to get a quick drink of water or to stop for a few moments to enjoy the day.
Just past the cut-off to Davis Drive Park, White Oak Greenway crosses Jenks-Carpenter Road. Be very careful at this crossing because traffic often moves very fast through here. Continue on the winding, tree-canopied greenway to its current terminus at Highway 55. (A tunnel under Highway 55 will soon provide access to the extension of White Oak Greenway.)
As an alternative, on your way back, take the branch to the right to Sherwood Forest or Park Village. (Seemap below.)
