About NCRC
Our Beginning
The North Carolina Roadrunners Club (or simply NCRC) came to life in November 1979 with a meeting of some local runners at Hackney’s, a Raleigh-based sporting goods store. We celebrate our rich tradition while updating our outreach for the 21st century. We are a nonprofit group (one of only 23 member clubs of the Road Runners Club of America in North Carolina and are also a member club of USA Track & Field) that draws members mostly from the Triangle area but also from other parts of Eastern North Carolina.

Our Mission

The mission of the NCRC is to promote and encourage running and walking. We sponsor three annual races - the Run for the Roses 5K, the NCRC Classic Half Marathon and 10K, and the ATT 10-Miler and 4-Miler - and engage in community activities, including social runs, quarterly socials, race expos, and quarterly Adopt-A-Highway cleanups to publicize the benefits of running and walking. NCRC members also volunteer as pacers, course monitors, and registration volunteers at other races, such as the Tobacco Road Marathon and the City of Oaks Marathon. We donate significant portions of the proceeds from each of the club’s races and events to various local agencies and groups, such as The Umstead Coalition, the local chapter of the American Red Cross, Triangle Rails To Trails Conservancy, Team Red, White and Blue, Four Paws and a Wake Up-NC, Girls on the Run, the City of Oaks Foundation, and the Wake County SPCA.

NCRC members come from all walks of life in all shapes and sizes. NCRC is about belonging to and giving back to our running community.

Club Benefits
NCRC members are entitled to member-only discounts for races, running stores, training programs, and other running-related activities. These discounts will appear on our website under Club Deals for in-store discounts and under Club Member-Only Discounts in the Resources tab for other discounts (you must log in as a member to see these discounts). The discounts will also appear in our member-only bimonthly online newsletter and in club email blasts.

Club members can also participate in our 1,000 Mile Club program. This program tracks and recognizes members who participate who have run and/or walked 1,000 miles in a calendar year. We also award "rewards points" to members and recognize and honor our active and longtime members at an annual dinner.

Club Activities

NCRC club socials take place quarterly and typically feature a guest speaker. These socials include an annual Christmas potluck dinner. In addition to our three races, we have two special fundraising events, the Snoopy's Run in February and NCRC's Spring Forth scavenger photo hunt in April. Our social runs include an Art Museum Run in April, a Sunflowers Run in July, a Winery Run Picnic in October, a Day After Thanksgiving Run in November, and a Christmas Lights Run in December. Come join us for a run or walk! And be sure to let us know what you think.
